    Doug Hammen Head Coach

I am excited to share my lifelong passion for the sport of swimming with our Stingrays!! I was introduced to the sport of swimming at 6 years of age through the YMCA competitive aquatics programs. I continued swimming in high school in Ohio and during my college years at Air Force Academy.

Upon my retirement from the Air Force in 2007, I transitioned to teaching and coaching.

I am married to Karla and have three children. Swimming has always been a part of our family routine!

I want this to be a great experience for all Stingrays! I am excited about our talented coaching staff. They are eager to make you your best! The lessons that you learn in the pool help you succeed as you pursue your goals in life! The friends and memories that you make will last a lifetime!

    See you at the pool!

    Jonathan Lang Assistant Coach

Coach Jonathan has been instructing for seven years now, this being the fifth with the Schertz Stingrays. He was a competitive club swimmer from age seven to his senior year in high school. He has formed a passion for teaching others how to swim and strongly believes the sport offers opportunities people can't find anywhere else.

In high school, Jonathan participated in the 4A State Championships his sophomore year and battled some injuries before making it to Sectionals his senior year. He recently completed his third year of college at A&M University and is working towards a degree in psychology.

His goals are to help kids develop a good character both in and outside the pool and to help them learn how to work hard at swimming while enjoying it. Personally, swimming has helped Jonathan make lifelong friends, learn to be a leader, and learn how to set goals and work hard to achieve them.

    Darrin Dziergowski Assistant Coach

Coach Darrin (DJ) has been teaching kids how to swim for 3 years now, and this will be his second year as a Schertz Stingray Coach. He has been swimming competitively since the age of 7, and has not stopped swimming since. With his experience, he hopes to provide opportunities to the kids that he teaches so that they may also one day become the best swimmers that they can be.

Darrin attended Samuel Clemens High School where he led the swim team as a captain his junior and senior year. He made regional finals every year in high school, and he qualified for Sectionals in multiple events. He is currently attending The University of Texas of the Permian Basin where he has been a part of the swim team for 2 years now, and is currently on track to earn a Business Management degree with a focus in Healthcare Management.

Darrin's goals this season are to continue the development of his swimmers, as well as introduce new aspects of the sport to help them better succeed while making sure they are having fun while doing it. Swimming has taught Darrin how to stay motivated and make goals for himself, and he hopes that swimming can have the same affect on everyone else that he teaches.

    Sara Ryel Assistant Coach

Coach Sara has been coaching for 5 years now, starting as a Junior Coach on Stingrays before moving on to the Schertz YMCA pre-swim team, then the YMCA Storm team, and finally coming back to the Stingrays. She started swimming at age 13, and swam through high school.

She is currently swimming at the University of Texas at San Antonio while pursuing a Business Management degree with a Human Resources track.

Sara's goals this season are to help the swimmers reach their goals while building character and making lifelong friends. Swimming has taught Sara that life is a process. In order to be successful, you gotta do more than just dream about it; you must adopt daily routines and habits that will get you to where you want to be. Nothing happens overnight.
